The village of Llandrinio is situated
in the Montgomeryshire area of Powys, Mid Wales.
The boundaries of the Parish of Llandrinio are mainly dictated by
watercourses – the Rivers Severn, Vyrnwy, the Sarn Wen Brook and the
Montgomery Canal. Despite being situated on a valley floor, Llandrinio
has a history going back many hundreds of years – it is believed that
a religious settlement stood on the site of the existing Church in
600AD.
The local government sub-ward boundaries of Llandrinio are the same
as the Parochial Parish. The information on this website is about
Llandrinio and reference to community or village means the area within
this definition as opposed to the local government Community Council
ward area which also includes the sub-ward of Arddleen.
The village has developed in a linear fashion along the B4393 from
its Eastern roots by Llandrinio Bridge to Crabtree Corner. The hub
of the modern village can be said to run from the Punch Bowl Inn area
to the Village Hall. The community contains a number of minor rural
satellite settlements – Bagleys Lane, Haimwood, Rhos Common, Rhos
Royal and Sarn Wen.
