Local Government & Councilors

Powys County Council:
Powys, the largest geographical County in Wales, covers c.25% of the Principality‘s area running from the edge of Snowdonia in the North to the Swansea valley in the South. Its population is 126,400 (only 4% of the Welsh population) and the net budget (2004/05) is £169,678,000. There are 73 Councillors and the Council is independent in that it has no political groupings. Following changes introduced by the government, the Council has a Board of 15 Councillors who have the ‘executive’ role on the Council but it also retains a Shire system to try to retain a local influence on decision-making. The County Council Ward for the Llandrinio area is the Llandrinio and Bausley with Criggion Ward covering the area from Coedway to Sarnau. The 2001 census showed that the Ward had a population of 1,760.

The County Councillor is Graham Brown, telephone 01691 830570 (H) or 07789 748135 (M). He is currently the Council’s Board member with Portfolio for Public Protection. He is also a member of the Dyfed Powys Police Authority and Deputy Chair of the Local Government Association’s Safer Communities Board.
